Sunnahs of Friday Prayer

  1. Ghusl (Ritual Bath): It is recommended to take a ritual bath (ghusl) before attending Friday prayer. This act of purification signifies the importance of the Friday congregation.

  2. Dressing Well: Muslims are encouraged to wear clean and attractive clothing for the Friday prayer. It is a day of gathering and special importance, so dressing appropriately is a Sunnah.

  3. Early Arrival: It is Sunnah to arrive at the mosque early for the Friday prayer. The earlier you arrive, the greater the reward. There are two sermons (khutbahs) delivered before the prayer, and arriving early allows you to benefit from them.

  4. Recitation of Surah Al-Kahf: It is a recommended practice to recite Surah Al-Kahf (Chapter 18 of the Quran) on Fridays. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) encouraged this practice, as it contains lessons and stories with moral and spiritual significance.

  5. Listening Attentively: During the Friday sermon (khutbah), it is Sunnah to listen attentively and quietly. Talking, fidgeting, or engaging in other activities during the khutbah is discouraged.

  6. Offering Salutations to the Prophet (Salat al-Taslim): After the Imam completes the Friday sermon and stands to lead the congregational prayer, it is Sunnah to offer salutations to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) by saying “Salat al-Taslim” silently.

  7. Supplication (Dua): Friday is considered a special day for supplication. During the last part of the Friday prayer, it is Sunnah to make personal supplications (dua) to Allah, as it is believed that such supplications are not rejected on this day.

  8. Seeking Allah’s Blessings: It is Sunnah to pray and seek Allah’s blessings, mercy, and forgiveness on Fridays. It is an opportune time to seek forgiveness for sins and ask for guidance and strength.
